Biography
Carter Massingill is a versatile litigator with a broad practice dedicated to addressing critical issues for his clients. Carter has recovered millions in judgments and settlements for plaintiffs, while successfully defending against claims worth millions on behalf of defendants.
Carter regularly handles high-stakes disputes in real estate development and construction projects, complex cases involving corporate governance and shareholder conflicts, zoning and land use issues, as well as a broad range of other intricate commercial disputes in state, federal, and arbitration proceedings.
His experience includes:
- Trials and arbitrations involving commercial disputes, fraud, breach of contract, breach of fiduciary duty, unfair trade practices, catastrophic injuries, wrongful death, and violent crimes;
- Resolution of significant shareholder oppression cases, corporate breakups, buyout disputes, multi-million-dollar class action construction defect claims, contentious non-compete and non-solicitation disputes, as well as collection and enforcement actions.
Beyond his litigation practice, Carter provides general counsel and advisory services to businesses, including drafting and reviewing contracts related to risk transfer, construction, insurance, employment, and payment structures. He also acts as outside and local counsel for out-of-state companies and law firms. A lifelong South Carolina resident, Carter handles cases statewide, utilizing the firm’s offices in Greenville, Columbia, and Charleston.
