William E. Whitney III

Biography

William E. Whitney III is a litigation attorney practicing in the firm’s Columbia, South Carolina office.  Will’s practice focuses on the defense of the railroad industry and other complex litigation at both the state and federal level.

Will attended the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee where he was inducted into the Order of the Gown, the University’s academic honor society. Will received his juris doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law, where he was a member of the Order of the Wig and Robe, served as the Associate Editor in Chief for the South Carolina Law Review, and participated in the inaugural Veterans Legal Clinic which served the legal needs of indigent veterans and their families.

Prior to joining GWB, Will worked with companies in the energy, manufacturing, environmental and healthcare sectors to provide legal counsel and assist in advancing their legislative and regulatory priorities. Will’s past experience as law clerk for the then-Chairman of the South Carolina Senate Labor, Commerce, and Industry Committee provided him with an invaluable foundation for working with clients in these industries.

Will works diligently to provide comprehensive solutions to the litigation challenges of clients. Will resides in northeast Columbia with his wife Charlie and son Liam.
