Biography
William P. A. Buyck III is a litigation defense attorney in the firm’s Columbia, South Carolina, office. William received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of South Carolina in 2007, his Certificate of Graduate Study in biomedical studies in 2010 from the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, and his J.D. degree from the Charleston School of Law in 2016.
In law school, William served as the associate editor in chief of the Charleston Law Review, as president of the Healthcare Law Society, and as a senator in the Student Body Government. Additionally, he was a member of the Executive Leadership Council, the Moot Court Board, was a student member of The James L. Petigru Inn of Court, and was a MUSC Dr. Raymond S. Greenburg Presidential Scholar.
Following graduation from law school, William clerked for the Honorable H. Bruce Williams at the South Carolina Court of Appeals. William gained invaluable experience learning from Judge Williams and all of the appellate judges at the Court of Appeals. He gained exposure to a wide array of unique criminal and civil issues from multiple arenas, including circuit court, family court, probate court, the Administrative Law Court and the Workers’ Compensation Commission. As a clerk, William was tasked with managing appellate cases for the entirety of the appeal, starting with the initial review of the appellate briefs and records continuing through to the drafting of final opinions for judicial review and review of arguments in petitions for rehearing. William was honored to work for the State of South Carolina in his capacity as judicial clerk for two years and was especially grateful for his time with Judge Williams.
William brings his diverse educational background and legal experiences from the appellate court to Gallivan White Boyd, where his practice includes insurance litigation and personal injury matters. He is a proud native of Saint Matthews, South Carolina, and is an ardent supporter of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. William is a devoted South Carolinian and is dedicated to improving his community and state through service with various charitable organizations, including his membership on the Special Olympics of South Carolina committee and on the Make-a-Wish committee through the South Carolina Bar’s Young Lawyers Division.
