Products Liability Team
GWB’s Products Liability Team has extensive experience in defending a wide variety of products liability claims, including mass tort and catastrophic loss claims. With an emphasis on strategic advocacy, team members are frequently called upon to conduct accident investigations and routinely advise clients on all aspects of the post-accident investigation and claims process. For 2012, GWB continued to be ranked as the #1 law firm in Greenville for Products Liability Litigation by Best Lawyers in America. Nine GWB attorneys were listed in Best Lawyers in America including: Howard Boyd, James Brice, Gray Culbreath, Stephanie Flynn, John T. Lay, Billy McGee, Curtis Ott, Phil Reeves and Danny White. Six attorneys (Boyd, Culbreath, Lay, Ott, Reeves and White) have also been recognized as South Carolina Super Lawyers.

Team members also believe that in order to continue to build their legal knowledge and provide the highest level of service to the team’s clients, participation in professional organizations is necessary. The Products Liability Team is actively involved in the following organizations:
Members of the Products Liability Team are called upon at all hours and stand ready to assist the firm’s product liability clients in the event of a product-related emergency or catastrophic event. For example, members of GWB’s Products Liability Team served as lead counsel in the emergency response, post-accident investigation, and claims handling of a massive boiler explosion that resulted in catastrophic personal injury and property damage. Team members were on-site within hours of the explosion and were involved in advising the client and directing aspects of the emergency response. GWB understands the importance of collecting information and evidence as soon as possible following an incident. The team provides its clients with an emergency response contact sheet which contains the work, home and cellular telephone numbers of each team member in order to better serve the GWB’s products liability clients.
Abnormal Use Blog
Abnormal Use: An Unreasonably Dangerous Products Liability Blog was launched three years ago by the attorneys at GWB in order to keep its clients and others informed about products liability issues as they develop across the country. The success of the Abnormal Use blog is clearly evident by being listed as one of the ABA Journal’s Blawg 100 three years in a row. The ABA Journal describes its Blawg 100 as the year’s “100 best legal blogs.” In addition, readers of the ABA Blawg 100 have voted GWB’s Abnormal Use blog as their favorite blog in the Torts category for the third consecutive year.
The Abnormal Use blog (www.abnormaluse.com) is edited by partner Jim Dedman with contributing authors Nick Farr, Rob Green and Frances Zacher. Abnormal Use features posts each business day regarding products liability cases and litigation in addition to interviews with law professors and practitioners. Abnormal Use has been linked to and referenced in The New York Times, National Public Radio, Scientific American, The Economist, and many other blogs and periodicals.
The blog has also strayed into popular culture with “Abnormal Interviews” according to the ABA Journal. This year is the 20th anniversary of the popular lawyer based film My Cousin Vinny. In honor of the film, the Abnormal Use attorneys interviewed the movie’s director, screenwriter and three actors. In past years Abnormal Use has featured interviews with television stars such as Phil Morris, who played lawyer Jackie Chiles on “Seinfeld.”
“Abnormal Use debuted three years ago and has been ranked as one of the best legal blogs in the country for all three of those years,” said Dedman. “I am proud of the dedication and creativeness the attorneys at GWB have invested into the blog.”
